When setting out to create the brand Rubeus Milano, Natalia Bondarenko wanted to offer women something totally new and unique, capable of surprising even the most seasoned luxury veteran. Here we are, only one year after Rubeus’s debut collection of handbags, and it is clear that Natalia has made her dreams a reality. Last week in Milan, Rubeus presented its stunning new collection of handbags. The designer’s inspiration is the ancient Greek legend of King Midas and his golden touch, a theme that is peppered throughout the line’s array of exotic reptile skin shoes and accessories.
To honor the debut of this new collection, Rubeus turned the staterooms of the Four Seasons hotel into a dreamlike garden setting, complete with golden cages that housed, not exotic birds, but rather, a beautiful display of luxury handbags, jewelry, and shoes. The shiny, gold jewelry tied beautiful into the theme of King Midas, a character from Greek mythology who, according to legend, turned everything he touched into gold. Gold in fact becomes the leitmotif of this Autumn/Winter 2015-2016 collection, perfectly complimenting the brand’s signature ruby red color range. Star of the new collection is also the gold alligator handbag, appearing as the classy ‘pochet’ model, complete with long straps, as well as the universally classic ‘bauletto’ design. According to Natalia, the ‘bauletto’ is the perfect bag for all occasions: roomy and comfortable enough for daily use, while refined and elegant enough for an evening out.
While chatting amongst themselves in this idyllic setting, guests had the pleasure of watching how Rubeus handbags are made. Throughout the evening, Rubeus artisans skillfully demonstrated their technique, showing the love that Italian tanners use in carefully creating their leather goods, and reinforcing the notion of why ‘Made in Italy’ is considered synonymous with the ideal of quality and taste.
Alongside the handbags displayed, guests also witnessed the debut of the brand’s shoe line. Sophisticated pumps, heeled ankle boots, and elegant loafers, all made with exotic reptile skin – Rubeus’s signature material. And some exciting news: Natalia Bondarenko and collaborating designer Riccardo Polidoro have announced the upcoming release of a full collection of Rubeus shoes, as well as the launch of a whole new line of accessories.
